Next Generation Calling!

On the 10th April, we ventured out to London to attend the Highways Electrical Association (HEA), the Institution of Lighting Professionals and LoLEG event at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in London.

The main theme was all about the Next Generation in the lighting industry and we saw some amazing talks from the panel, followed by a lively round of questions. Our very own James Probut started the event off, talking about how he got started in DFL and his admiration for the mentors that have inspired him along the way.

Seasoned speech-giver, Alistair Scott, also took to the mic and had everyone laughing as he retold his own lighting story and includd some amusing old photo’s of some familiar lighting industry faces.

In general, the ‘take-home’ was that we ALL need to do more to promote our industry so that those choosing a career have lighting as an option.  With so many options open to young people now, we do need to make sure the lighting industry is one that’s better known and more welcoming.

Thank you to Michael Levack and Peter Burbridge for pulling the event together. Thank you to Anthony Lane and Allan Howard BEng(Hons) CEng FILP FSLL for joining us at the DFL dinner table for dinner and being excellent company.

And a big thank you to the IET for having such an amazing view over the Thames! We’re already looking forward to next year!
