Ban the Bulkhead!
Continuing the controversial conversation that began over on LinkedIn about banning the bulkhead, I have a growing image library of Bulkhead lighting that is causing light spill.
- Why are these poorly controlled light fittings the go-to option?
- Why are they still lit up during the day?
- Do you realise that public money is being used to have lights on during daylight hours when they are not needed?
- The lifespan of these fittings will wear out far quicker when they are constantly on – why waste much-needed Local Authority money and add to the growing environmental strain?
So, here is the one simple bit of advice I want to give anyone, looking at building exterior lighting for new development…Ban the Bulkhead from your designer’s toolkit…seriously! I mean it! 💡♻️
There are an abundance of suitable products available that will light the space in a much better way, reducing light spill, cutting down on glare, operating only when needed and still being able to perform that all important emergency lighting provision. Building lighting doesn’t have to be the blot on the nightscape that most building amenity lighting is. So come on, say it with me ‘Ban the Bulkhead!’.
If you have a building that needs external lighting, you can get the right advice early on! At DFL-UK we help you design lighting that’s efficient, effective, and environmentally responsible from day one.
