Teamwork Tuesday!
We are excited to announce that Mirfield Underpass has now officially been opened to the public.
The project was delivered with excellent teamwork from all partners Kirklees Council, Network Rail, Grand Central Rail, JMD Rail and Studiotech and has resulted in a visually pleasing underpass that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors to the area. DfL provided design and technical support via our client Kirklees Council.
Early feedback has already shown that the project has been well received and brought smiles to people’s faces which is great news especially within the current unprecedented times.
Much thought went into the project and by using energy saving LED’s the lighting can be changed to create coloured visual effects such as a rainbow should the council wish to do so.
DfL are happy to offer secondments to local councils which helps to minimise both the short term and long term skills gap when such projects are being undertaken to help them result in success.
Our Northern Project Manager, Kevin Dugdale worked on this project as part of his secondment with Kirklees Council. Here are some of his thoughts on the project ‘Mirfield underpass concept design was developed in 2018 from a commission from Kirklees to assist with their project and it has taken two years to bring the concept to construction and has been a successful project for those involved. Modelling the design in 3D allowed Network Rail to see the design concept visualisation and the teams from Kirklees, JMD Rail and Studio Tech have all played their part in bringing this project to life. The renovation of the area including new bollards and new artwork mural really have enhanced the public area.’
