We’re proud to announce Ryan as winner of the HEA-HEMSA employee of the year award.
He has shown outstanding competency in his role at Designs for Lighting since he started with the company 3 years ago.
As well as taking on responsibility to manage his projects early on in his career, he demonstrates a very good understanding of the fundamentals of lighting design. He applies this understanding to provide high quality lighting designs and technical advice direct to our clients. He is excellent at building relationships with clients and ensuring that new clients become longstanding retained clients.
He wrote a research paper on colour temperature which is very relevant in our industry. This presentation has developed into an interactive workshop where we ask lighting professionals their opinions on personal and professional preferences for different colour temperature LED sources. This presentation has featured at the 2017 ILP summit and at most ILP regions since then and was awarded best paper at the ILP London region AGM.
Ryan seemed like a natural choice for this award. He has already put himself forward to be the YLP Technical officer sitting on the main ILP Technical committee.
He contributes to the revised guidance on Light Impact Assessments and has recently been awarded Incorporated Engineer and MILP after just 3 years in the industry.
He was awarded the Alan Higgs memorial prize in March at the ILP London region AGM. This prize was for the best presented paper at a regional technical meeting.
At the ILP summit in June, Ryan was invited to give the toast to the Institution. His speech was a rousing one which talked of his pride at having achieved IEng MILP and the importance of competence in the lighting industry. The speech prompted one prominent industry personality to write: –
“It’s very clear Ryan has a prominent career ahead of him. It’s great to see someone of his age grasping the challenges of the technology with such forethought and vision. I am sure in years to come he will be a leading light in this wonderful industry. He has made the most of his position and mentoring.”
Alistair Scott, MD for DfL is proud to say; ‘‘Ryan is one of the rare individuals who decided at a young age that he wanted a career in lighting. To achieve this, he attended the University of South Wales to study and get a degree in 2015 in Lighting Design and Technology. His passion for lighting has intensified since then and he deals with each project and client with an enthusiasm to provide a quality lighting design solution’’.
