The appeal of working with a lighting consultant like us when embarking on a new street lighting project is simple: we can ensure you use the fewest number of assets possible whilst still meeting the local authority’s requirements, saving you time and money. And that’s not all.

Reasons to turn to DFL

There are plenty of stages in the residential lighting design process where things can go wrong, causing bottlenecks, increased costs and even resulting in your planning application being delayed or rejected.

For instance, if you’re looking to implement an ‘adoptable lighting’ scheme, which is designed to be passed onto the area’s local authority for ownership and management in the future, you’ll need to know how to meet the council’s lighting conditions without losing sight of your design. Not as easy as it sounds...

And even if you’re working with non-adoptable lighting and have the freedom to work to your own design standards, there are still certain requirements you’ve got to meet. Wrongly positioned streetlights can obstruct pathways, incur rewiring costs and create unwanted, obtrusive light that leads to unpleasant residential receptors that upset humans, bats and other wildlife.

But when you work with us, you don’t need to know about all of this. That’s our job!

What’s our approach?

At DFL, we use our years of experience and technical knowledge to make street lighting simple and get your designs approved — doing everything we can to give you the full lighting design service you deserve.

As part of our residential lighting design services, we’ll draw up a plan for your lighting installation that not only avoids all the above mistakes but makes use of the solutions required to showcase your project. We can even help you integrate solar-powered streetlights into your design if you’d like to enhance the eco-friendly and sustainability credentials of your scheme (we know we would!).

We pride ourselves on working hard to know what local authorities need for your street lighting to be adopted. So, as part of our street lighting service, we also work directly with members of local councils across the UK — integrating their requirements into your lighting scheme and giving you the best of both worlds.

And we can’t speak about residential lighting without mentioning the two types of lighting agreements included in the Highways Act 1980...

  • Section 287 — the agreement that permits developers to carry out alterations on a road for street lighting purposes.
  • Section 38, which secures new road adoptions by the local council or authority.

We know it’s not the most exciting part of a new lighting project, but you’ll need them sorted to get your project approved. So, we’ll help with all these technical bits, too. And if there’s anything else you need help with, including any post-application site visits or lighting surveys, we’ve got you. Just say the word!
