DfL are proud to have sponsored a successful ILP Summit which was held in the North-East for the first time in 90 years
It was great to see such a good turnout at the Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP) Summit this week. We were extremely proud to be sponsoring this event and we hope that everyone enjoyed the Summit as much as we did. It was great to see so much CPD content readily available and the presentations and workshops that were delivered were very informative and enjoyable to watch. There were many themes which align with the direction our business is heading in and it was great to gather with others from our profession to discuss these. The team enjoyed meeting with clients and welcomed the opportunity to discuss upcoming opportunities and projects.

DfL were pleased to be able to deliver two presentations at the summit. Thank you to all those who came to support us, it was brilliant to see so many new and familiar faces in the audience.
The first of our presentations was a ‘Smart Cities’ workshop delivered by Alistair Scott and Kevin Dugdale on Wednesday. Smart Cities are an emerging trend and the workshop explained the terminology that is often used as well as how a cohesive smart city strategy can be created. We also informed the audience about some of the challenges and opportunities that come with Smart Cities such as the investment that will be needed in the city infrastructure and the need for them to be Citizen-Centric.
On Thursday, Ryan Carroll took to the stage for his keynote presentation on ‘how to overcome the challenge of lighting sensitive natural environments’. The presentation was based on the award winning Dorothy House project that Ryan and the team have recently finished working on. The lighting design could not be detrimental to the ecologically sensitive boundaries which were set next to an area of conservation. Ryan discussed how challenges were overcome such as the opposition about the car park being lit and how the final lighting design was completed to achieve 0% upward light from the installation.

Alistair Scott, DfL Managing Director and newly appointed ILP Vice President- Government and Regulation stated “The lighting industry is facing some real challenges related to reduced funding, aging infrastructure as well as adapting to take advantage of the rapid change in technology in which lighting plays an important role.
For these reasons it was the right time for DfL to sponsor the ILP Summit; an important forum for ensuring that the industry is at the forefront of the technology advance.
We were particularly happy and proud to sponsor an exciting and innovative CPD programme which was well-attended and covered many areas in which DfL are growing our capability.”
We are all excited for the future as DfL continues to grow- watch this space for some exciting changes coming soon.
We are now really looking forward to the next big event which will be the ILP Lightscene Exhibition and CPD Seminars in October.
We are pleased to say that the slides from both presentations made by DfL at the summit this week are now available to you on request so please let us know if you would like a copy of these and we can send them to you.
